Poolside West Hollywood, by Heather Dotson, 2004

Poolside West Hollywood, by Heather Dotson, 2004

In 2000 I landed in Los Angeles without having released a record in a few years. I’d been focussed on The Conquerors (a merseybeat band I’d started with some Minneapolis scene mates) writing new songs, scoring a film and renovating an old duplex. All this had splintered my attention away from following up quickly on 1997’s TURBOSHERBET.

Linus of Hollywood, an amazing 60’s pop-oriented recording artist, was the first musician I collaborated with in LA. He suggested I get myself back in people’s mind by releasing a ‘best of’ compilation from my records SHE and TURBOSHERBET. He released it on his Franklin Castle recordings label. My music was in great company, most notably Linus’ albums and a couple re-issues of the lost 60’s gemstone Margo Guryan. If you’ve never heard her song “Think Of Rain“, you have not lived. Same goes for Linus’ “Say Hello To Another Goodbye“. Buy those songs!

GO! came out in 2004 and it inspired me to hit the road again, venturing up the west coast a few times and playing a lot in LA. Between tours work began on the album that would become PARADOR, with Linus producing.
