What’s He Listening To In There?
I’m convinced there’s a pop music renaissance occurring. Sweet relief, because somewhere around 1974, this nine year old sensed that pop music was losing the thread.
By the 80’s I hated the fidelity of EVERYTHING. The 90’s brought some welcome attitude, but I’d turned my attention towards old jazz and vintage easy listening–hiding out, waiting for the sun.
Lately, song craft has been coming back to its place of primacy, and with that, a carefulness that artists are bringing to their sonic choices. I imagine it has a lot to do with the demise of the various aesthetic fascisms brought on by commercial radio and major record labels. Good riddance.
The Neighbor
Never thought I’d see it
Him backing his wheel chair up the stairs.
With rubber jammed so deep in his ears.
What’s he listening to in there?
